If you had treated an animal in Germany the way we were treated, you would have been jailed. For example, a guard or a group of them would single out a prisoner and beat him with canes or a club. Sometimes to further terrorize a prisoner, the guards would form a circle around a prisoner and beat him unconscious. There were cases of a prisoner being told to report to the Revier ('Hospital' and being forced to drink a quart of castor oil. Believe me, this is a lousy, painful, wretched way to die. You develop extreme diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and severe dehydration. If the Nazis wanted you to live and suffer more, they would take measures to rehydrate to victim.

Another symptom to watch out for. By the time it gets this severe, it is probably too late to stop.

The persecution of Jews in Germany had reached unbearable proportions. I was afraid to go to school, being beaten bloody by students and the teacher. 'Brownshirts' roamed the streets breaking windows of Jewish homes; synagogues were ransacked and burned. Jews were arrested in the middle of the night to be sent to concentration camps, never to be seen again. Jews and dogs were not allowed to enter local movie theaters or restaurants. We had to leave. But where to?

The term brownshirts refers to the thugs in Hitler's SA- Sturm Abteilung or Storm Battalion in english or Storm Troopers who wore brown shirts.

One of the ways they would silence Hitler's political opponents is by beating them up then forcing them to drink a quart of castor oil which kept them out of appearing in public for a while.

They never bothered to counter criticism, just silence it though

The SS started to spread rumors that the SA (brownshirts) wanted to seize power for itself. Hitler put the SA leadership on leave for a month and summoned them to a conference in Bad Wiessee. There the SS arrested them on june 31st and executed most of them. The same night they also arrested 200 of the leading figures of the political opposition, among them many conservatives like the former Chancellor (1932) General von Schleicher.

'In Germany the Nazis came first for the Communists. And I did not speak because I was not a Communist. And then they came for the Jews And I did not speak because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Trade Unions. And I did not speak up because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Catholics. And I was a Protestant and so I did not speak up. Then they came for me. And by that time there was no one left to speak for anyone.' ~ Martin Niemoller (1892-1984)

(Don't forget that 'state of emergency' thing. It comes up very often in the Nazi history.)

'It was clear to me that a conflict with Poland had to come sooner or later. I had already made this decision in the spring, but I thought that I would first turn against the West in a few years, and only afterwards against the East ..I wanted to establish an acceptable relationship with Poland in order to fight first against the West. But this plan, which was agreeable to me, could not be executed since essential points have changed. It became clear to me that Poland would attack us in case of a conflict with the West.' ~ Adolph Hitler

Hitler then went on to explain why he had decided that the most favorable moment had arrived for starting the war: 'Now' said Hitler, 'Poland is in the position in which I wanted her .. I am only afraid that at the last moment some Schweinehund will make a proposal for mediation .. A beginning has been made for the destruction of England's hegemony.'

Does this not sound like Bush whining about the UN and France interfering with his plans to take Iraq?
