Edwards on Leno

John Edwards appeared on Jay Leno. Diane Keaton was on before him, and said that she was greatly looking forward to meeting him.

Edwards came on with a frozen politician smile and a sort of salesman glad-hand manner. It was embarrassing.

He gradually relaxed and did much better.

Leno went after Bush on the AWOL thing, pointing out by now with all the publicity surely someone would have come forward who remembered him.

Edwards was quite measured in his criticism of Bush, but made his points clearly.

I think his strategy is to appear optimistic and sunny, not angry.

He did not come across as youthful, more as slick with his perfectly trimmed hair, like something out of one of those magazines they show you at the hair cutting place. With his North Carolina accent he is vaguely reminiscent of Clinton.

As expected he dropped the 'son of a mill worker' line. He talked about possible policies to keep jobs in America. I think this is going to sell well. At least it did with the studio audience. I think Americans are tried of government by fat cats for fat cats.

He is a trial lawyer. I'd love to see him eat Bush alive in a debate.

As I have said, I don't like Kerry because of his Skull & Bones membership. So I suppose that makes me an Edwards supporter, even if I find his slick style unappealing.

Many years ago a sent a donation to McGovern. He returned it with a note explaining the US laws which I was ignorant of. I confine my meddling in US politics to internet posts and my website.

None of the likely candidates are acceptable as President of the United States. The problem is that everyone's going to have to vote for whoever gets the nomination so that there's unity to remove the fascist dictator.

'Anyone but Bush' means we have to take the unknown devil for one that we know is a baby killing fascist.

It CAN happen and IS happening here. Many elderly Germans today recall that during the 1930's in Germany there was a notable absence of crime and that a young girl could walk down the street at night without being harassed or molested. What these naive people didn't realize is that a horror of horrors was being committed in the midst of a 'safe' society. After the War, many Germans were heard to say, 'Nazis? There were no Nazis. Camps? There were no camps.'
