I'm running a Dell D300 with Suse 8 Linux.

BIG? It's HUGH. 2003 Workstation and Student Office will cost you at least $200; probably closer to $300. That's 1/2 the price of a halfway decent computer.
I've never met a mythical power user. Except for familiarity with the menuing and basic interoperability among applications, is there anything in Office that's not in one of the other suites that's absolutely vital to anyone. No.

Ahhh but there are several in fact. Kword OpenOffice StarOffice
All three are COMPELTELY COMPATIBLE with Micorsoft Office. The only thing that they lack is the abiltiy to allow those annoying VB virii that seem to make people's lives hell on occasion.
