How long does it take the authorities to trace your phone call?
I'm curious because in movies, it has never been revealed, so as to not give away any secrets. However, when I saw this movie: Specialist, The (1994), the Sylvester Stallone character announces 58 seconds, and hangs up, so I figure it must take them 60 seconds to get a full trace on a caller.
I wonder if this is true. Have you seen any movies that revealed any times on

A call to 911 emergency is "traced" even before you ever talk to an operator/dispatcher.
As a part of the Enhanced 911 system, each incoming call is tied to an address.
If a person in an emergency situation is not able to respond, police will arrive.
This is also true of cell phones. All newer phones come with GPS tracking which the police can use to find your exact location.
If you don't believe me, Dial 911 and hang up. An officer will soon arrive and cite you for a misdemeanor. Highly NOT Encouraged.

Actually every phone is connected to a cell phone tower called cell. There s no tracking needed. Operator just looks in the registry where the client is connected at the time. In the urban areas single cell covers something like 100x100 meters. Out in the open it`s up to few tens of square kilometers. And as you move trough the city, your movement can be easy tracked by looking at witch cells are you connected while you move.
You you have google earth on your phone, you can turn on a GSM tracking witch in urban areas will give your location very precise.
In the end... what you see in movies is bullshit.
