Even worse! He was avenging a victory. Should have worded that one differently! He was a Kennedy, though, and Nixon hated the Kennedys. He also would have been a major threat to Nixon's election.
For a segment of the population, they most certainly were. Wallace was going to siphon off a good chunk of Nixon's right-wing support. Hoffa just used the same tactics as the union-busters; his motive was to help the working man.
All of them were pretty clearly not on Nixon's A-list, and Nixon was known to hold a grudge. He also had the means, motive, and opportunity to have these people (and Ruby) killed, AND to have people keep quiet about it.
